77th DDAY – D-Day commemorations – June 2021
It is in a still somewhat special atmosphere that we commemorate the 77th anniversary of the D-Day landings.
This year in Normandy, there will be fewer people, fewer activities than the “June 6” to which we are accustomed but we are happy to offer you this program which will nonetheless be of quality. This year, it may be an opportunity for you to make the trip, to access less crowded places, to benefit from increased proximity with the various actors of the event: local witnesses, historians, specialists as well. May all these enthusiasts who work for the transmission of memory so that we never forget the sacrifices and the courage of those who were there in June 1944.

“Field hospital” Temporary exhibition
Every day from June 4 to 6, 2021
A fully reconstructed field hospital operating theater.
In order to evoke the memory of the field hospital based in Saint-Hilaire Petitville during the summer of 1944, we will welcome private collectors who will present an impressive collection of medical equipment constituting an entire operating theater of the time. . Demonstrations are on the program throughout the day.

Presentation of vehicles and equipment of armored units (2nd Armored division)
Reenactors will present and perform demonstrations of Half-Track and AMM8.

Demonstration of the ENIGMA coding machine
June 4, 5 and 6, in museum schedule
Edmond KERN, cryptography specialist and owner of a perfectly functional ENIGMA machine, will introduce you to the inner workings and secrets of the famous German Enigma machine.
+ Exceptional conference on June 4 at 7 p.m.
Edmond Kern will host a fascinating conference “The Enigma Myth” in the Greenfield room.

Portraits of veterans – Inauguration of the temporary exhibition
June 4, 2021 at 5 p.m. inauguration
In collaboration with Florent Plana, known for his numerous interviews with veterans, we invite you to find in the heart of the stages of the museum, photographs of veterans. They are positioned in the museum in a coherent way with regard to the fights in which they participated. Each portrait is accompanied by a presentation in text form. Look at the teaser (in french)

Demonstration of Hummers “HUMVEE”
June 5, 2021 from 12 p.m.
Exhibition and demonstration of 8 Hummer vehicles by a group of private collectors. These vehicles date from the 80s / 90s and were used by the US Army, especially during the Gulf War.

In partnership with the D-Day Wings Museum, newly installed in Carpiquet (14), a “North American T-6 Texan”, a training aircraft for American pilots, will fly over the A10 Airfield at low altitude, to the delight of our eyes and ears.

Presentation of parachutist equipment and demonstrations
June 7 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
The ETO Group association, specializing in the reconstitution of the 101st Airborne, will set up for one morning on our outdoor area and will introduce visitors to the specificities of D-Day airborne troops, in particular through demonstrations: folding parachute canvas , installation of markup, simulation of shots, etc.
