A project conceived to commemorate in a different way
In 2020, Normandy Victory Museum imagine a new way to commemorate the anniversary of the D-Day landings. After the "Bell Towers of Liberty" operation, the team wants to offer a moment of gathering, both memorial and festive.
The idea of a drive-in cinema then became obvious: to allow the public to come together, each in their own vehicle, around an open-air screening.
An exceptional device
The screening was scheduled to take place on June 6, 2020, at the former American airfield A10 Airfield, with the film Saving Private Ryan being shown on a giant 120 m² screen.
The sound had to be accessible both outdoors and via the participants' car radio, thanks to a dedicated frequency.
An atmosphere inspired by the 40s and 50s
To accompany this evening, an American atmosphere from the 40s-50s was planned, with the presence of the partner restaurant A10 Canteen, offering burgers and hot dogs for takeaway service.
An event that was ultimately cancelled
Unfortunately, a few hours before it was to take place, the event was cancelled following an administrative decision independent of the organization.
Nearly 200 people had registered to participate in this evening, which was conceived as a moment of sharing accessible to all.
