Type your letter to Santa Claus on a typewriter

An original activity for young and old

On December 7, 2024, Normandy Victory Museum welcomes Yves Lenchon, Norman collectoraccompanied by about thirty antique typewriters.

For an afternoon, children discover these amazing objects and take their places at the keyboards to write their letters to Santa Claus… the old-fashioned way. An experience as fun as it is unexpected, which amuses as much as it intrigues.

A fun discovery for children

For many children, these machines are a real surprise. No screen, no modern keyboard, but keys to press, a carriage to move, paper to insert…

They try their hand at this mechanical writing with curiosity and sometimes a little application, accompanied by Yolande, a former typist, who guides them kindly.

A simple, joyful moment, where everyone leaves with their letter, typed by their own hands.

At the end of the activity, a draw will be held to win a typewriter from the 1970s.

A surprising exhibition for adults

While the children diligently type their letters, the adults take the time to discover a selection of about thirty typewriters, some of which date back to the First World War.

Among them are some amazing models: a gold-plated machineidentical to that used by Ian Fleming to write James Bond, or another, commissioned by the army during the war and finally delivered after the conflict.

Yves Lenchon happily shares the history of these objects and the memories they evoke, in a friendly atmosphere.
