Historical reenactment at the heart of the event

During these three days, the reenactors set up their camp near the museum, allowing them to concretely address the realities of the field during Operation Cobra.

Visitors were able to discover different aspects of military life, through detailed facilities and exchanges with participants, notably thanks to the presence of the associations Forty's Group, Front Line Issue and Mayenne WW2.

Objects, archives and stories, in the spotlight

Gregory Oswald, curator of Chartreuse Museum in Molsheim (Alsace), was present to showcase in detail an amazing amphibious vehicle: the Trippelwagen. Presented as part of the temporary exhibition of the Normandy Victory MuseumIt highlighted this vehicle developed during the Second World War, one example of which is preserved in France.

Themed tours were also offered by Patrick Fissot, co-founder of the museum, focusing on objects related to Operation Cobra that were exceptionally brought out of the display cases.

Finally, the demonstrations of the Enigma machine, provided by Edmond Kern, made it possible to address the challenges of intelligence using a rare machine still in working order.

Lectures and perspectives from historians

In a different vein, conferences were offered in connection with the Battle of the Hedgerows and, more broadly, with the Second World War.

During these interventions, Clément Horvath, author of the book Till Victory, shared his work on letters from soldiers involved in the Battle of the Hedgerows, based on documents that were sometimes unpublished. Christophe Prime, a historian associated with Caen Memorial, addressed the strengths and weaknesses of the American army in Normandy, while Edmond Kern revisited the operation and role of the Enigma machine.

A variety of formats to see history differently

The weekend also featured proposals that went beyond the usual framework, with two particularly noteworthy highlights.

• Julien Hervieux, known by the pseudonym "Odieux Connard" (Dirty Bastard), presented a show blending historical narrative and stand-up comedy, based on his work on The Small Theater of Operations.

• The screening of the web series Résistance, directed by Maxime Chefdeville, provided an opportunity to discover a local production, followed by an exchange with the team.

• Guided tours in Dodge vehicles, in the heart of the bocage, allowed participants to discover on the ground the history of the battles of the summer of 1944.

Finally, several activities and concerts completed the program throughout the weekend.

The success of this edition, the high attendance and the satisfaction of the participants have paved the way for a third edition, confirming the museum's desire to establish this event permanently in the local cultural landscape.
