A few words about the project

Through archive footage, eyewitness accounts and re-enactments, the film tells the story of the men of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles (3rd Canadian Infantry Division) who landed on Juno beach on 6 June 1944.

As part of this great project, the Maple Leaf association wanted to honour the Royal Winnipeg Rifles and tell their story, from the assault on 6 June 1944 to the capture of Creully, the junction with British troops, the terrible confrontation at Putot-en-Bessin and the executions carried out by the SS at Audrieu. The re-enactments are accompanied by testimonies from veterans and civilians who lived through those terrible days. Jim Parks, a veteran of the Royal Winnipeg Rifles in the first wave, was a major supporter of the project, as were many veterans’ families.
