A few words about Chester’s career in 1944
Chester P. Sloan arrives in Normandy as a replacement a few weeks after the landing. He was sent to Company B, 38th Infantry Regiment of the famous 2nd Infantry Division also known as the “Indian Head” Division. 78 years ago, Buck took part in the terrible battles to liberate the city of Brest as a B.A.R (Browning Automatic Rifle) machine gun shooter. After the fighting in Brittany, Buck was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge during the last major German offensive in Western Europe. Buck was then only 20 years old. At the age of 98, Buck returned to Normandy for the first time.
