A few words about the veteran Ignatius « Iggy » DeGenero

Iggy” landed on Omaha Beach as a replacement after June 6. He was part of E Company, 38th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division and participated in the fighting on Hill 192 during which he was captured.

He ended his war in several prison camps in Germany from which he was liberated by the allied forces in 1945. It was only then that he learned of the disappearance on Hill 192 of his childhood friend and brother in arms Ottavio J. Cochi, it was the day after his own capture.

In 2024, 100-year-old Ignatius “Iggy” DeGenero wanted to return to the place where he lost his friend. Thanks to the help of Florent Plana, Jenny Post and an engaged community, this was made possible and he does us the great honor of coming to share his experience during a conference at the Normandy Victory Museum.
