Back in Normandy for the first time since the 75th anniversary, the association, which has around a hundred re-enactors, will take part in the celebration of the museum’s 5th anniversary, after having inaugurated in Carentan a stele in memory of the 2nd American Armored Division, unit represented by the association.

In partnership with the Musée de la Chartreuse (Molsheim, Alsace) and the Musée des Blindés de Saumur (Maine-et-Loire), we are pleased this year to host an exceptional temporary exhibition on the Trippelwagen, a German amphibious vehicle, produced in the Bugatti factory in Molsheim in Alsace from 1940 to 1944, under German annexation The Molsheim museum provides the panels, documents, photo and video archives, while the Armored museum makes available one of the extremely rare cars still in existence, the last in France, the SG6-41 model. PREVIEW of Florent Plana’s documentary film “They Won’t Die Twice” – Session 1/3

Friday, June 3 at 6:30 p.m. – Salle Greenfield
It was in July 2020 that Florent Plana shot the first scenes of his film, a little over 76 years later, at the very place where American soldiers landed on June 6, 1944, on Omaha Beach. The director then compared these reconstitution scenes with interviews of veterans carried out during various trips to the United States.
The result gives us a moving film that tells the story of 34 boys from the small town of Bedford, Virginia, who landed in Normandy and of whom only 15 will return to the country. They were the “Bedford Boys”. (Read our article about the film)
This first screening is free and without reservation, subject to availability. (The other sessions on June 5 and 6 are by reservation)

Military Hospital Dynamic Exhibit – Operations Demonstrations

Saturday June 4 – Between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. – Inside the museum
Already present in 2021, this group of enthusiasts has reconstructed an almost complete American field hospital, with exclusively original equipment. Several times a day: realistic demonstrations of surgical operations, as they were performed on the wounded on the battlefield.

Presentation of the restoration project of an Enigma machine, by engineering students from ESIX Cherbourg
As an introduction to the conference “The Enigma myth”, we are pleased to welcome the 5 students in charge of restarting the Enigma machine from our collections, as part of their study project. Working since last fall on 3D modeling, the reproduction of missing or defective parts and their assembly, they will present the stages of this titanic work which made them plunge into the history of the Second World War.

The members of the RCPT fold their parachutes before their last jump which will take place the next day at La Fière, and invite you to attend. A privileged moment to exchange with enthusiasts who exercise their duty of memory in the most beautiful way.

Guided tours of the temporary exhibition “Trippelwagen”, by Grégory Oswald, curator of the Museum of Molsheim (Alsace)

Grégory Oswald will share with you all the secrets of the mythical amphibious car, especially during its production in the Bugatti factory in Molsheim from 1940 to 1944, all in front of the last example kept in France, the SG6-41 in the Musée des Blindés de Saumur.

Passage of the “Voie de la Liberté” hike – 250 bikes
The association “Voie de la Liberté” honors us with a stop at the museum, on their journey of about 140km. The 250 cyclists of the hike are members of the association with about fifty American soldiers who reinforce the workforce for the occasion!
Passage of a convoy of 150 Harley motorcycles
A convoy of around 150 Harley Davidson motorcycles from the “Rennes-Bretagnes Chapter” will also be passing through.
Passage of the Carentan Liberty March
A march in period clothes with civilians and soldiers has become a must in the region. (200 walkers in 2018)

Parade and exhibition of the “Column Notek”

The Colonne Notek association brings together dozens of collectors of German vehicles, most of which are very rare. Every year on June 6, they crisscross Normandy in the footsteps of the 1944 battles, and stop at the Normandy Victory Museum to share their passion with our visitors.

Presentation of parachute equipment and semi-nocturnal demonstration

Tuesday, June 7 – At 6 p.m. – Outside the museum
The ETO Group association, specialized in the reconstruction of the 101st Airborne, will set up on our outdoor site and will introduce visitors to the specificities of the airborne troops of D-Day, in particular through demonstrations: folding of parachute fabric, setting in place of beaconing, shooting simulation, etc. In the evening, they will take advantage of nightfall for a semi-nocturnal marking demonstration.
